that $15 M school bond

Been catching up on my reading tonight and found some interesting stuff, starting with this article from down Hillllls-villlllle way...

A couple of highlights....

While it was thought that only Wise & Montgomery rec'd the max, it seems Carroll also got $15 Mil., but not all of it was for HS stuff.
(Richmond & Norfolk ALSO got $15 Mil, but that was because they have the largest % of kids in poverty.)

They express concern over a cost increase now that raw materials will be needed like crazy in Japan, AND over the $30 Mil. given to Mont. & Wise. Looks like they're unaware that SW VA got more than $45 mil... Bland got 11.6, Bristol got 3, D'enson got 10, Mart/Henry Co. got 13.9, and Smyth got 9.5, for a total of $93 Mil, or double what he was aware of.

Competition for the bonds in VA was based on a 100 point scale. You get 15 points if you're replacing a building that's more than 35 years old. To me, that says the paperwork will have to be re-submitted and that INTEREST-FREE $15 Mil. will be reduced a bit (I'm sure D'enson would like an extra 3-5 Mil).

AND "a binding committment with a 3rd party to spend 10% of the proceeds must be entered into within 6 months of the issuance of the bond".

All this makes me now think that the NEW ship has sailed. Congrats to the "anti's" - you "win", and your kids will now be crammed into outdated, 50-year-old sweat lodges come August.

Is that in those two links, about the scale? If not, could you please post it? I couldn't find that part, really interested to read more about that particular part since that's what they blather about at these meetings - that the money could be used for anything, when most of us new it would have to be resubmitted and reduced. Great stuff though.

^^ Well that I did, but HB went crazy and it didn't post. Good stuff though, you get 25 points for consolidation that shuts down at least 1 school, our points/priority would go down quite a bit if it were submitted for renovations.

I read that, too. I just hope those fools decide to consolidate and build. It would be a shame to lose that money. As I have stated before, time and again, our taxes can not continue to support a total of 16 schools. Consolidate into 3 new building for high schools and find ways to streamline the others.
